Barberine Canyon FAQ

Fitness level ?

A track bypasses EACH obstacle of Barberine canyon.

Barberine canyon offers challenges of all sizes (75 ft high abseil, jumps up to 20 ft, ziplining, slides...), but each participant has a choice to go for it or not.

Ideal for a group with very varied fitness levels ! The sportiest will have a blast and the careful will enjoy challenges within their reach.

I'm scared, are there jumps or mandatory passages ?

No obstacle is mandatory in Barberine, thanks to the track that runs all along the river.

6 to 20 ft high jumps, it is your choice to decide wether you are jumping and off what height. No pressure.

What stuff should I bring  ?

Ideal : lace shoes with spikes.

OK : worn out shoes, big hiking shoes, velcro sandals with a solid sole.

Not possible : soft neoprene soled water shoes, sandals and flipflops with toe separation.

* You can rent shoes from OXO : 5€/p. Book them the day before at the latest !

What gear is OXO canyoning providing ?

Neoprene wetsuits and socks are looked after and continuously renewed so they don't have holes. They are washed with a bactericide and fungicide treatment after each use.

Meeting place ?

Right here ! Just outside Vallorcine, you are meeting your guide and the OXO van on Barberine canyon's car park.

You need to drive to this place.

This meeting place will be reminded to you in details by email.

I'm not driving a car. Is it a problem ?

From Chamonix or Argentière, no worries.

Let us know and we'll explain you how to proceed : one way on OXO minibus / one way on free Mont Blanc Express train. It's easy and it's free !

Where do we change clothes ?

There is no OXO base on the side of the river and we need to change on the canyon's car park. It is a quite place, but we change outside or in the cars !

Make sure you wear your bathingsuit under your clothes

Make sure you go to the toilets before leaving, there are none on the spot (and peeing in the wetsuit is not right at all !)

What do we do with our valuables ?

We leave them in the cars... or best at your accommodation.

Glasses and contacts. Possible ?

Wearing prescription glasses when canyoning is possible. A well adjusted leash normally allows to not lose them. Otherwise, fitting them in the jacket against your chest for jumps is the safest solution.

No problem either for contact lenses as long as you close your eyes underwater.

What if it is raining ?

Barberine canyon is located right below the Emosson dam which strongly reduces the effect of rain on the riverflow. Observing the usual security principles, one can go canyoning in Barberine even if it's raining !

Can one follow the group walking ?

Yes ! For those who want to follow the group without taking part to the activity, a track allows them to walk along the river. The OXO guide will explain them where to go.

The walk is not too exhausting, but the path can be steep and precipitous. Good shoes compulsory.

OXO is not responsible for people following the group on the path.
